The redevelopment of this site, located behind a shopping high street and used as a depot, demanded a sensitive design to address several conflicting issues. The site is reached by a narrow lane with a Victorian terrace and backs onto another development site that has planning approval for a high-density development.
With daylight only effectively available from one direction, a courtyard design was developed to provide light and open space. Facing the access road, a modern interpretation of the Victorian terrace respects the scale and rhythm of the existing terrace.
