The Practice was appointed to design a new building to accommodate additional specialist classrooms, including an IT suite and Home Science facility. The School was concerned that the ‘village school’ atmosphere of the site should not be lost with the introduction of a new building.
With such a strong cohesive architectural group, an early decision was taken to respect existing materials, forms and features. The new building is ‘attached’ to the western site boundary wall to maximise playground space. The entrance to the building is emphasised by a projecting curved first floor bay that forms the ‘hinge’ between the two wings.
